Power Animals
THE CLASSIC THEME OF HORSES IN A LANDSCAPE SETS THE TONE OF THIS PAINTING. HOWEVER, THE TREATMENT OF THE EQUINE FORMS HAVE BEEN RECONFIGURED WITH COLOUR TO EVOKE AN EMOTIONAL LANDSCAPE ATUNED TO THE MOON'S PSYCHIC PRESENSE WITH A SOARING SILHOUETTE OF A RAPTOR EVOKING FURTHER MAGIC TO THE SCAPE.
THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS WORK CAME FROM OBSERVING HORSE'S WITHIN THE ENVIRONS OF CALIFORNIA (THOUSAND OAKS, SHERWOOD LAKE), AND IMAGINING THE TERRAIN TO BE MUSICAL AND SUGGESTIVE OF AN ONGOING FASCINATION WITH TANGO, WHICH COULD BE APPLIED TO THE MOVEMENTS OF THE HORSES.
AS WITH AN EARLIER PAINTING CALLED 'TIGER TANGO', IN WHICH A FELINE PERSPESCTIVE APPLIED TO THE TANGO WAS EVOKED, THIS WORK EXPLORES THE IMAGINED PSYCHO DYANMICS OF AN EQUINE STATE EXPRESSING THE EMOTIONAL INTENSITY OF THE 'TANGO' EMBODIED IN THE COLOUR FORMS OF THE COMPOSITION.
